“I Seem To Have Misplaced My Hat”

You know how sometimes you’re painting and everything is going perfectly fine, and you think “I’m going to try this over here…” and it doesn’t work out? And then you’re course correcting all over the place, until finally you just say “Enough!” Yes. This painting has a lot of that.
To be fair, it’s probably rather a lot to do with finally okay-ing the proof of the new coloring book, and having to finalize a lot of things (like a price, release date, etc.) this morning. (In other words AHHHHH so much fear & stress!)
So, here’s this little fellow is looking for his hat. It must be around here somewhere…

Every morning after I get ready I have a little ritual with my dog. She sits patiently on my bed while I begin with the high pitched voice one generally uses to speak directly to dogs: “Who’s a good dog? Do you know any good dogs? Do you know maybe one or two good dogs? Who is a good dog? Do you know a good dog named Josephine? Is Josie a good dog? Josie IS a good dog!” On and on it goes. Everybody does this with their dogs, right? Right?
I’ve been thinking a lot about various dog memes, too. I love them. Perhaps you know the ones?
Thus, this silly and very concerned little doggo was born!
Here, I made it better:
Feel free to spread this around the internet willy nilly if it suits you. 😀
Today’s tiny painting: a French Bulldog with a donut obsession.
“Joey’s Donut Dream”
93 / 100 Days of Dog Doodles
2” x 3”
Today’s tiny painting: a French Bulldog with a donut obsession. So, in working on the new coloring book, I noticed a few running themes. One of them is donuts. Seriously, there are multiple donut pages. I made one of them a bonus page for the book. And donut’s next door neighbor, COFFEE. I think there may be even more coffee pages than donut pages. (Wait, just counted: it’s even. Two of each, actually. That doesn’t sound so crazy.) Food + pugs is a running theme of the book. Also, curiously: unicorn pugs.
But I digress.
My point was this: I draw an awful lot of donuts for someone who doesn’t actually eat donuts. (I find them too sweet and it freaks my blood sugar levels out through the roof and it’s just not a fun thing for anyone.) I love the imagery of donuts, however. I really love looking at them. Repeating circles! An endless variety of decorations and patterns and colors! Seriously, go google pretty donuts right now. It’ll make your eyeballs smile. And/or make you hungry.
